Employee-Initiated Safety Suggestion

Safe Health Zones (SHZ) – After-Shift Recovery Pilots

Purpose of this page

This page provides a neutral, professional template that workers may use to submit an internal safety and wellbeing suggestion to their employer regarding the exploration of Safe Health Zones (SHZ) through a limited, voluntary pilot.

The template is intended to support existing workplace health and safety processes, not to bypass them.

What Safe Health Zones (SHZ) are

Safe Health Zones (SHZ) are a post-shift, off-duty health restoration framework designed to be explored through small, time-bound pilots.

They are:

  • Accessed only after clock-off

  • Voluntary for participants

  • Separate from on-shift work, rest breaks, or sleep facilities

  • Designed to support post-shift physiological decompression, particularly following night work or extended operations

  • Structured to be inspection-safe, privacy-respecting, and operationally non-disruptive

SHZ are not fatigue management systems, do not replace lawful rest requirements, and do not alter rostering, coverage, or productivity expectations.

What SHZ are not

To avoid ambiguity, Safe Health Zones are explicitly not:

  • On-shift fatigue controls

  • Rest rooms or break rooms

  • Sleep facilities

  • Productivity or performance programs

  • Surveillance environments

  • Industrial relations instruments

Any consideration of SHZ remains subject to employer review, WHS compliance, and applicable laws.

Why workers may raise SHZ internally

Many workers, particularly those involved in night operations, logistics, transport, or extended-hour roles, experience cumulative post-shift fatigue that is not fully addressed once they leave the workplace.

The employee template is designed to allow workers to raise SHZ as:

  • A good-faith safety and wellbeing suggestion

  • A potential pilot concept, not a demand

  • An opportunity for safety teams to assess whether structured post-shift recovery infrastructure could complement existing systems

Submission of the template does not imply expectation of implementation.

About the employee template

The template provided:

  • Uses neutral, non-confrontational language

  • Fits within standard WHS suggestion and continuous improvement frameworks

  • Can be submitted anonymously if preferred

  • Does not reference activism, advocacy, or external pressure

  • Invites internal review by safety professionals

It is deliberately framed so employers retain full discretion over assessment, scoping, and outcomes.

Important note for employers

NaturismRE does not request, require, or expect adoption of Safe Health Zones.

This page exists to ensure that when workers raise SHZ internally, employers have access to:

  • Clear context

  • Accurate framing

  • A stable reference point

Any pilot or assessment remains entirely at the employer’s discretion and must comply with workplace laws, WHS obligations, and operational requirements.
