About the National Community Landscape Framework

The National Community Landscape Framework has been developed by the NRE Health Institute as a strategic framework for strengthening healthier, greener and more resilient communities through responsible stewardship of suitable public landscapes and community participation. It has been designed as a practical framework capable of supporting governments, councils, organisations and communities in developing locally appropriate Community Landscape initiatives.

Framework Status

This Framework represents the current public edition of the National Community Landscape Framework. It is intended to encourage discussion, evaluation, practical implementation and continuous improvement. The Framework should be regarded as a living document that evolves through research, community experience, environmental knowledge and constructive collaboration.

How the Framework Should Be Used

Strategic Guidance

The Framework provides strategic direction and guiding principles rather than mandatory requirements.

Local Adaptation

Communities should adapt the Framework according to local legislation, environmental conditions, available resources and community priorities.

Supporting Standards

The Framework is supported by companion Standards and Guides that provide additional guidance for individual Community Landscape components.

Continuous Development

Future editions will continue evolving through practical experience, research, innovation and constructive public contribution.

Framework Philosophy

The National Community Landscape Framework is founded upon a simple principle: Healthy communities are created through healthy environments, responsible stewardship and active community participation. Rather than prescribing identical solutions, the Framework encourages communities to develop locally appropriate approaches while working toward shared environmental, social and public health objectives.

Framework Development

The Framework has been developed to remain practical, scalable and internationally adaptable. Its principles may be applied by individual neighbourhoods, municipalities, regional authorities or national governments while respecting local governance, legislation and environmental conditions. Future editions may incorporate new research, emerging technologies, practical experience and contributions from participating communities around the world.
