Subject: Naturism and Nudism as Misunderstood Cultural Lifestyles — Request for Recognition and Dialogue
Dear High Representative Moratinos and the UNAOC Team,
I write to you on behalf of NaturismRE (Naturism Resurgence), a global movement defending the peaceful cultural practices of naturism and nudism. These non-sexual,
inclusive lifestyles are built on the principles of body acceptance, natural living, peaceful coexistence, and social equality.
Despite their long history and global reach, naturist and nudist communities are:
• Routinely misunderstood and misrepresented
• Targeted by unjust laws and moral panic
• Excluded from cultural diversity dialogue
• Denied their identity and freedom of expression
We believe this situation falls squarely within UNAOC’s mandate to foster understanding across cultural traditions and challenge prejudice and misinterpretation of marginalised
communities.
Naturism & Nudism as Cultural Philosophies
Naturism and nudism are not merely lifestyle preferences — they are:
• Peaceful philosophical systems grounded in harmony with nature
• Embraced in diverse ways across Europe, Oceania, South America, Africa, and Asia
• Intergenerationally transmitted through personal example, community spaces, and lived tradition
• Frequently aligned with pacifism, environmentalism, body neutrality, and collective respect
Yet, due to cultural taboos and historical misrepresentations, these traditions are:
• Falsely portrayed as sexual or deviant
• Censored or silenced on global platforms
• Denied the recognition offered to other peaceful belief systems
A Crisis of Misunderstanding and Suppression
Naturists and nudists often face:
• Legal restrictions that criminalise simple nudity, even in private or natural settings
• Social exclusion, harassment, and digital censorship
• Loss of dignity and cultural transmission due to fear, shame, and misclassification
These are not isolated incidents — they form a systemic pattern of cultural marginalisation.
The NICP Act – A Cultural Safeguard
NaturismRE has proposed the Naturist Integrity & Cultural Protection Act (NICP Act 2025) in Australia, with potential global applicability. It:
• Legally defines naturism and nudism as non-sexual, lawful cultural practices
• Prohibits their misrepresentation in fetish and adult contexts
• Creates legal protection for peaceful naturist communities and spaces
• Supports broader UN values of cultural freedom, dignity, and peaceful diversity
We believe this model deserves international dialogue — especially within UNAOC’s platform for inclusion and coexistence.
Our Request to UNAOC
We respectfully ask that UNAOC:
1. Acknowledge naturism and nudism as misunderstood but peaceful cultural traditions with legitimate philosophical roots
2. Include naturist voices in discussions on marginalised cultures and antidiscrimination frameworks
3. Review the NICP Act as a legislative tool to preserve and protect peaceful minority cultures
4. Explore opportunities for public education, myth-busting, and visibility of naturism
as part of global cultural diversity
For Peaceful Coexistence to Be Real, No Culture Should Be Silenced
Naturism and nudism challenge commercial norms, but they do not challenge peace. They do not harm. They do not divide. What they do is invite honesty, simplicity, and mutual
respect. They build communities without hierarchy, status, or shame.
UNAOC’s leadership in recognising all cultures — not just convenient ones — would send a powerful message. We invite you to help give visibility, understanding, and dignity to this
often-excluded way of life.
We are prepared to provide background documentation, legal summaries, community testimonials, and engagement proposals.
In respect and hope,
Vincent Marty
