Why a Humanitarian Initiative?

Vincent Marty July 2026

People occasionally ask why NaturismRE is now developing humanitarian initiatives.

At first glance, it may seem like an unexpected direction.

For us, however, it was a logical progression.

When NaturismRE was established, our work focused on research, education and developing a better understanding of the relationship between people, health and their environment.

As our research expanded, so did our perspective.

We explored subjects ranging from public health and environmental stewardship to food resilience, biodiversity, education, urban environments and community wellbeing.

Although these topics appeared different, they repeatedly led us to the same conclusion.

Communities function as interconnected systems.

Health is influenced by the environment.

Environmental quality influences wellbeing.

Community participation influences resilience.

Education influences long-term outcomes.

Food security influences both physical health and social stability.

The more we researched, the clearer these connections became.

Eventually, a simple question emerged.

If our research can identify practical ways to strengthen communities, should we stop at publishing reports, or should we also help develop practical solutions?

Our answer was equally simple.

Research should lead to action.

That decision became the foundation of the NRE Humanitarian Initiative.

It does not replace the work NaturismRE has undertaken over the past twenty months.

It builds upon it.

The same principles that have guided our research continue to guide this new initiative.

Evidence before opinion.

Long-term thinking before short-term reactions.

Practical solutions rather than ideology.

Community participation rather than dependency.

Environmental stewardship rather than environmental exploitation.

The Humanitarian Initiative therefore represents an expansion of our mission rather than a change in direction.

Its purpose is to encourage stronger communities through practical initiatives that improve environmental quality, strengthen resilience, support education, encourage responsible stewardship and create healthier places in which people can live.

Some initiatives may remain local.

Others may grow into regional, national or international collaborations.

Their scale is less important than their purpose.

Over the coming decades, NaturismRE intends to continue refining its long-term vision as research, experience and practical knowledge continue to grow.

Our twenty-five-year strategic plan has already been updated to reflect this broader understanding.

Not because we abandoned our original mission.

But because our research demonstrated that improving health and wellbeing cannot be separated from the communities in which people live.

NaturismRE remains committed to naturism.

The NRE Humanitarian Initiative simply recognises that the same principles of health, wellbeing, respect and responsible interaction with our environment can contribute to society far beyond the boundaries of naturism itself.

If our work helps create communities that are healthier, more resilient and better prepared for the future, then we believe the initiative will have fulfilled its purpose.

Because stronger communities benefit everyone.
